The Pat Cushman Memorial 1K sprint race is this Wednesday, Feb 11, at 4PM in Quinn Field, Deering Oaks Park, Portland. Sponsored by the Portland Ski Club, NENSA - New England Nordic Ski Association, Coastal Nordic Ski Club, Peak Performance, Ski Maine, the Cushman family and the City of Portland.

Day of race registration from 3-3:30PM. There is a $5 entrance fee for competitors. More information is here.

Beginner skate skiing clinic

Morgan Laidlaw, the coach of Maine Coast Nordic and the Bill Koch League skiers, is offering a beginner skate skiing clinic at Pineland on Martin Luther King Junior Day. Take advantage of this opportunity!

Time: 9AM, Monday 19 January (MLK day)
Location: Pineland - meet in the stadium (the large, flat, groomed area by the touring/visitor's center).
cost: $10/person (what a deal!)
Note: A trail pass must be purchased from the Visitor's Center or the Nordic Center (downstairs from the Visitor's center) to ski on the trails. Also, the Nordic Center rents skate skis, boots and poles.

Full Moon Ski and Potluck

On Saturday evening, January 10th please join us for a potluck dinner and full moon ski at Pineland Farms. We’ll provide drinks, plates and utensils. Please bring a main dish, salad or dessert to share. After dinner we’ll head out for a ski on Pineland's trails. Meet at the ski touring center (downstairs from the Visitors Center) by 6:00pm for dinner. We’ll begin skiing by 7:00pm.

Citizens Race at Pineland

Nearly all runners at all levels of the sport enjoy the local 5Ks and 10Ks. Indeed, the local mid-winter 10 mile classic had nearly 700 runners this year. And this is a relatively long race in the middle of the Maine winter! Why don't more casual and weekend cross country skiers enter races? Coastal Nordic Ski Club encourages everyone to go for it this winter, and is hosting a NENSA citizens race 14 February at Pineland. Most of you have skied Pineland. It has stunningly beautiful, world class trails designed by John Morton. The race will be 10K freestyle, so wax up your skate skis and go train here (word is the snow is great there right now) until we get the artificial or real stuff at Twin Brook. One or the other will be here next week.
